Ventajas de usar Ubuntu :

Creo que una de las ventajas que mas usuarios lleva a Ubuntu es su precio: Es gratis. No tiene ningún costo descargar este sistema operativo, y de hecho puedes descargarlo desde su propia pagina. Es muy ligero y estable, totalmente personalizable, funcional y completo.

No tienes que estar preocupándote por virus, o por el crack para que funcione. Muchos programas de los que usas en windows, funcionan también en Ubuntu (Skype, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Calibre, Netbeans, Vlc, Steam, etc). Otros tienen excelentes alternativas, basadas también en software libre (LibreOffice en vez de Office, Gimp por Photoshop, Jahshaka por After Effects, etc).

Ademas es mas importante: La filosofía libre, de compartir, porque el conocimiento debe ser libre.

Obviamente son muchas mas las ventajas, aquí solo nombré las que me llevaron a mi a utilizar Ubuntu.

Los cambios más destacados, respecto al consumo son:

Se ha reducido el uso de memoria que hacían algunos paquetes, cargando datos e imágenes CSS de GTK3, sólo cuando se necesitan.

Se arreglaron problemas de memoria en los paquetes libdbusmenu, update-notifier, upower, whoopsie y otros más.

LightDM PPS cayó de un uso de 25.7M a 0.6M

Algunos procesos fueron modificados para que terminen si no se usan y se reinicien cuando se demandan, por ejemplo signond, signon-ui.

Algunos procesos de Gnome, se configuraron apagados por defecto en el inicio.

No se instala más las cuentas online de Gnome, que no eran utilizadas en Unity.

Se optimizaron servicios de escritorio.Algunos de las nuevas versiones de aplicaciones son las siguientes:

Nautilus 3.6.3, con iconos monocromo para Lugares, Dispositivos, etc..Archivos recientes se incluyó en el sidebar y también Historial de conexiones anteriores en “Conectar con el Servidor”.

Firefox 19.0.2, con Retina Display e IonMonkey, el nuevo compilador JavaScript.
